Service Overview

Expert Concrete Repair &
Structural Strengthening in Sri Lanka

Concrete is the backbone of every structure — but it is not permanent without proper maintenance and repair. We provide expert concrete repair and structural strengthening services that restore your building's original strength, extend its service life, and prevent costly future deterioration.

Sri Lanka's tropical climate is particularly aggressive on concrete structures. High humidity, monsoon rainfall, salt-laden coastal air and intense UV radiation accelerate the carbonation of concrete, corrode reinforcement steel, and cause progressive deterioration of the structural fabric. When left unaddressed, what begins as a surface crack or patch of spalling concrete becomes a serious structural risk.

Our team of certified specialists carries out detailed structural assessments, designs the correct repair strategy, and executes the works using premium Supercrete New Zealand repair systems — restoring structures to their full design performance.

Concrete Deterioration Repair
Understanding the Problem

Why Concrete Structures
Deteriorate

Understanding the root cause of deterioration is essential to specifying the right repair. We investigate before we recommend — ensuring the correct solution every time.

  • Carbonation — CO₂ from the atmosphere penetrates concrete, reducing its alkalinity and allowing steel reinforcement to corrode
  • Chloride attack — salt from coastal air and de-icing salts penetrates concrete and destroys the passive protection around rebar
  • Mechanical damage — impact, overloading, vibration and settlement cracking the structural fabric
  • Thermal movement — daily and seasonal temperature cycles cause expansion and contraction cracking
  • Poor original construction — inadequate cover, low cement content or poor compaction leaving the structure vulnerable from day one
  • Water infiltration — sustained moisture contact causing rebar corrosion, freeze-thaw cycling and alkali-silica reaction

How We Approach
Every Repair Project

1
Condition Survey & Assessment
We conduct a thorough visual and non-destructive condition survey — including carbonation depth testing, half-cell potential mapping, cover measurement and crack mapping. This gives us an accurate picture of the extent and cause of deterioration before any repair is specified.
2
Repair Strategy & Specification
Based on the survey findings, we prepare a detailed repair specification — identifying repair zones, concrete break-out depth, surface preparation requirements, repair mortar selection, and anti-corrosion treatment for exposed reinforcement.
3
Concrete Removal & Preparation
All deteriorated, delaminated and carbonated concrete is carefully removed to sound substrate using controlled breaking and cutting techniques. The perimeter of each repair area is saw-cut square to avoid feather edges. Rebar is exposed, cleaned and treated.
4
Anti-Corrosion Treatment & Bonding
Exposed reinforcement bars are blast-cleaned and treated with corrosion inhibitor coating. A cementitious bonding agent is applied to the prepared concrete substrate to ensure maximum adhesion of the repair mortar.
5
Repair Mortar Application
Approved Supercrete NZ repair mortars are applied in the correct layers to the prepared substrate — built up to the original profile. Mortars are selected to match the strength, shrinkage and modulus of elasticity of the parent concrete.
6
Protective Coating & Finishing
Once repairs are cured, a compatible anti-carbonation or waterproof protective coating is applied over the entire surface — sealing the repaired and surrounding concrete from further atmospheric attack and ensuring a uniform appearance.
Advanced Strengthening

Structural Strengthening
When Repair Isn't Enough

In some cases, concrete repair restores the section but the structure needs additional load capacity — due to increased loading, seismic upgrading requirements, or original design deficiencies. We provide structural strengthening solutions that increase the capacity of existing elements without the disruption and cost of demolition and rebuilding.

  • Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) wrapping — applied to columns and beams to dramatically increase shear and flexural capacity with minimal added weight or size
  • Steel plate bonding — structural steel plates epoxy-bonded and bolted to beams and slabs to increase bending resistance
  • Section enlargement — reinforced concrete section added to existing elements — columns, beams and walls — to increase load capacity
  • Post-tensioning — additional prestress applied to existing slabs and beams via installed tendons
  • Foundation strengthening — micro-pile installation, underpinning and base slab enlargement for settlement-affected structures

Common Questions

Concrete Repair & Strengthening FAQs

How do I know if my concrete needs repair or full replacement?
In the vast majority of cases, properly executed concrete repair is far more cost-effective than demolition and rebuilding. Our condition survey will identify the extent of deterioration and confirm whether repair is viable. Full replacement is only recommended where the structural integrity is so severely compromised that repair cannot economically restore it — which is relatively rare.
Will the repaired concrete look different from the original?
Repair mortars can be colour-matched to the original concrete. In most cases, the application of a uniform protective coating over the entire surface after repair eliminates any visible difference between repaired and original areas, giving the structure a clean, consistent appearance.
Do you carry out repairs on occupied buildings?
Yes — we regularly work on occupied buildings, including hospitals, offices and residential buildings. We plan repair works in phases to minimise disruption and coordinate closely with building management to ensure safety and continuity of operations throughout the project.
How long do concrete repairs last?
When carried out correctly using quality repair mortars compatible with BS EN 1504 repair principles, concrete repairs should last 20–30 years or more. The longevity depends on the thoroughness of the investigation, correct identification of the deterioration mechanism, quality of execution, and application of a suitable protective coating over the repaired area.
