Duraproof PU 550
A one-component, polyurethane, liquid waterproofing membrane. Offers excellent mechanical, chemical, thermal, UV and weather resistance properties, as it is based on pure, elastomeric, hydrophobic polyurethane resins. Applied as a liquid — cures to form a seamless, fully bonded, permanently flexible waterproof membrane on any substrate.
What is Duraproof PU 550?
Duraproof PU 550 is fundamentally different from all other products in the Supercrete waterproofing range — it is not a cementitious slurry or acrylic coating, but a pure polyurethane liquid membrane that cures to form a seamless, permanently elastic, fully bonded waterproof skin directly on the substrate.
The product is based on pure, elastomeric, hydrophobic polyurethane resins — the highest-performance waterproofing chemistry available. Unlike cementitious membranes that rely on a tortuous pore structure to resist water, PU 550 cures to form a continuous, void-free, hydrophobic film that physically repels liquid water at a molecular level. No water can pass through because there are simply no pathways for it to travel through.
As a one-component system, PU 550 requires no mixing on site — it is applied directly from the container by brush, roller or spray. Moisture in the air and substrate triggers the curing reaction, converting the liquid into a tough, flexible rubber-like membrane. This moisture-cure mechanism means the product can even be applied in damp or humid conditions — common on Sri Lankan construction sites.
The cured membrane combines outstanding elongation — accommodating significant structural movement without tearing — with excellent resistance to mechanical abrasion, UV radiation, thermal cycling, and chemical exposure. It is the correct system choice for the most demanding exposed waterproofing applications where cementitious systems would fail over time.
How a PU Liquid Membrane
Works — Step by Step
Unlike sheet membranes that are laid in place, or cementitious slurries that are mixed and trowelled, Duraproof PU 550 is a liquid that is applied to the prepared substrate and cures in place to form a seamless, fully bonded membrane:

PU Liquid Membrane vs
Cementitious Slurry — When to Choose Each
Understanding which system is right for your application prevents expensive mistakes. Here is a clear comparison:
Polyurethane Liquid Membrane
- ✓ Completely seamless — no joints anywhere
- ✓ Maximum elasticity for structural movement
- ✓ Best for exposed roofs, bridges, car parks
- ✓ Hydrophobic — molecularly water repellent
- ✓ Excellent chemical resistance
- ✓ Most demanding performance requirements
- ✓ Moisture-cure in humid site conditions
Cement-Based Slurry Systems
- ✓ Lower cost — more economical
- ✓ Can be tiled over directly
- ✓ Suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms, pools
- ~ Flexible (Duraflex Ultra/100) or rigid
- ~ Requires joints at large areas
- ~ Good for buried/non-exposed applications
- ~ Breathable (vapour permeable)
